BC Energy Step Code

The Province has committed to taking incremental steps to increase energy-efficiency requirements in the BC Building Code to make buildings net-zero energy ready by 2032. The BC Energy Step Code – a part of the BC Building Code – supports that effort.

As of May 1, 2023, the BC Building Code requires most new buildings in BC have 20%, or better, energy efficiency. This is the same as Step 3 for Part 9 buildings and Step 2 for Part 3 buildings.
